The Artist

Rasa Valiene (born 1962) is an artist from Lithuania, one of the Baltic states. Her creative work is quite distinguished and based not only on careful studies of the European tradition but also on the thorough investigations of our inner world full of dreams and fancies. R.Valiene reveals a sort of imaginative reality understood as the scintillating mirage of the soul. Sometimes her pictures are almost abstract. Nonetheless, various symbols and signs are preserved: they indicate that the artist tries to render some inner meaning of the particoloured images. R.Valiene plays tirelessly with bright and vivid colors, using certain rhythmical patterns and lines at the same time. Thus she creates the picturesque and decorative compositions full of energy and gladness. Not rational, but emotional attitude towards the phenomena predominates, though the artist never risks to explore the dark and destructive sides of the soul. She emphasizes the beauty and goodness as the main paradigms of her creative work, therefore sensitive and refined pictures made by R. Valiene reveal her faithfulness regarding the positive human values. The painter regards the world a kind of perpetual miracle. The main motifs of the creative work are various flowers, butterflies, stylized human figures as well as quite precious abstract patterns and nets of curved lines which imitate the flow of sense and follow the changing moods of the artist. R.Valiene is a gifted artist who expresses her sincere feelings and tries to make us better.
